Our day trip hiking around the Causcasus Mountains and Kazbegi's Gergeti Holy Trinity Church.

With limited information about how to get about the country, we heard about the 'Marshrutka stations' and Ilia conveniently being Russian (a saving grace for speaking to anyone over the age of 35 in Georgia), he knew that these were essentially minibuses. The idea is that you turn up, repeat the name of where you're going enough until someone points at the right van and hope they're right as you hand over the equivalent of £4 for the 3 hour journey once they've filled up with enough passengers.

What tends to happen to any sort of church or cathedral that I make a journey to visit usually happens to be under scaffolding at the time, so the tradition continued even in Georgia.

After our hike up the mountain to the church and realising the glacier I wanted to see was actually a very long way away, it started getting cooler and the sun began lowering so we managed to get a Bolt back down to Kazbegi, then bargained with some different minivan drivers to eventually go all the way back to Tbilisi after the marshrutkas had supposedly finished for the day. Perhaps we should've planned the route back more but I have a habit of just thinking "let's get there first and figure out the way home when the time comes"
